The Feedstocks

Feedstocks are the raw materials that go into the EFW process at the front end.

From the animal farmer’s standpoint, it could be their manure, bedding/litter, unused feed, mortalities or feedstocks from a neighbor’s farm.

From the field farmer’s or greenhouse grower's standpoint, plant trimmings, clippings, crushed fruit or spent grow blocks.

From the City/Municipal standpoint, it’s ALL the unsorted, household "garbage", plus the "green" materials such as grass and garden trimmings, spent flowers and shrubs from Parks and Rec., office recycled paper and kitchen programs, oil and grease from the maintenance yard and oil and grease from all the restaurants in the community.

From a supermarket’s standpoint, it’s the trimmings and spoiled product from the produce, deli, grocery, fish, frozen food and butcher departments. The unused cardboard boxes (cardboard=paper=trees=alive once) are good feedstocks too.

If you’re a food manufacturer, you have lots of feedstocks available too, whether you brew beer or make cheese.
